As reported by the WBJ, Menkiti Group (a Brookland-based realty and development company) has announced plans to redevelop the 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue into a mixed-use development.
As proposed, Menkiti is planning to restore the three properties and to create a dozen residential units and 10,000 square feet of commercial space in the buildings. On tap is a 5,500-square-foot hardware store and 12 residential units at 3300 Rhode Island Ave., a 3,110-square-foot ReCreative Spaces arts incubator at 3308 Rhode Island Ave., and a 1,360-square-foot cafe by Englert at 3310 Rhode Island Ave.
So exactly where is 3300 RIA? See the map below:
As, you can see, it is immediately across the border. This development will definitely help bring more activity to the RIA NE sections on the DC-side of the border. Here is what the property currently looks like:
I am glad to see Solar Panels in the drawings. I am a big supporter of Solar Power. However, if Pepco merges with Exelon, Solar Power is at risk. I hope Bo Menkiti will help fight the merger with Exelon and further support Solar Power in the DC area.
