Masseria Brings Italian Cuisine to Union Market Area

Nick Stefanelli, the former chef of Bibiana, has opened an Italian restaurant in the warehouse section of the Union Market area. The restaurant space is inconspicuous among the other wholesalers but once you walk inside, you are transported to a literal oasis of comfortable and stylish decor. The cocktails are inventive and delicious, designed by former PX bar manager, Julien-Pierre Bourgon, and the food is equally amazing, which is prix fixe at $62 (three course) and $85 (five course) with an impressive wine pairing option designed by former City Zen sommelier, David Kurka.

We had dinner there last night, and had a cocktail each, and ordered the five course dinner with wine pairing. Our choices of food included open-faced ravioli with shrimp, seared duck, cuddle fish, soft shell crab,duck tortellini, and we opted for a cheese course for dessert instead of the sweet offerings (which looked amazing). Our bill was $411.40 before tip. This really wasn’t bad for five glasses of wine (tasting pours) and a cocktail each, the portions of food per dish, and the atmosphere was relaxing and really nice, and the staff was very attentive. I really enjoyed having the Somm match the cheeses to my preference of wine (Barolo) that I ordered for dessert. Although we didn’t partake this time, they do offer cigars for purchase and the lounge area to enjoy it.

This is definitely a good addition to the Union Market area, and a boon for our neighborhood being so close for Ward 5 residents.
