Now Open

As many of you will remember when I posted about the proposed Flip-It Restaurant coming to RIA here, well, the restaurant has finally opened! The restaurant is located at Rhode Island Ave and 16th Street NE.

It appears that the owner has taken care to create a good space by revisioning the interior and offering a banquet hall for private parties, as well as, having outdoor seating. I personally have not been there yet (I plan on it soon) but if anyone has, please let us know your thoughts!

Flip-It!

The old Bubba Muscogees is getting a new tenant. Interior demolition and reconstruction has been ongoing for months at the former restaurant located on the corner of 16th St NE and RIA. With a planned finish and open date of early March 2011, the Flip-It! Bakery and Deli, will be the third of its kind in DC. The other two restaurants are located off of Georgia Avenue and the second is at Michigan Avenue.

The owner of the Flip-It! restaurants, Lester Foote, says that the location along Rhode Island Ave NE will be a “family-style restaurant” that will not serve alcohol. The restaurant will seat 87 patrons and have a banquet hall that people can rent out. The hours are going to be 7am to 9pm on a daily basis and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner (with breakfast served all day). Lester Foote says that he is a longtime DC resident, who grew up in the area of Ward 5, and that his mother still lives in the area of the Rhode Island Ave location.

Here is the website for Flip-It!

New Soul Food Restaurant on RI Ave

Thanks to Woodie for sending this over:

Today, Sat. Oct. 3, I noticed the Soul Food Restaurant door at 2006 RI Ave., NE opened. I walked in and there were 4 people talking about where to put the wash basin and other apparatus for the restaurant. I spoke with the proprietor. His name is Ted Newkirk. He says he lives on Irving Street in Brookland. He’s thinking of renaming the Soul Food Restaurant “The Woodridge Cafe.” Ted seemed very open and polite about talking with people about what to offer in the restaurant. The eating and preparation space is very small, so it might just be a take-out place with a few tables. He says the restaurant should be complete in a couple of months. I would suggest that anyone who reads this blog stop by and talk with Ted about the restaurant.
